Siilanyo and Dr Frazier

The president of Somaliland and his team made a great diplomatic coup. They turned the tables against the notorious enemies of Somaliland. They did manage to get the attention of the Greatest power in the world and with the grace of God brought the U.S Undersecretary for Africa Dr Frazier to Hargeisa. The Government through its efforts has created a golden opportunity for every Somalilander who gets the chance to meet that rare and important delegation to express how much Somaliland has achieved, how much the world has isolated us , how much the bad guys are being rewarded with billions of aid and how much the good is being neglected to live on his own wits.

Every Somalilander who happens to meet the delegation should have impressed the Americans on how much the same enemies of freedom and democracy we have. On how many times the terrorist has also attacked us in parallels with what has happened in September 11, that our expatriate staff has been targeted by lunatics of the same agenda. Everyone should have impressed on Dr. Frazier that we need forge an alliance of friendship and peace with the Government of the U.S.

The central of theme of all discussions with Dr, Frazier should have been that the best way to fight radicalism in the world and the region is to encourage stable and democratic countries in the world, particulary in the Muslim world and that Somaliland is the best candidate for that. People who had the chance to meet with the U.S delegation should have made the point on how many trillions that America is spending to bring democracy to Iraq, and on how we did IT all by ourselves. One should have also stressed on the strategic location of Somaliland at the Seven of the Horn, on the Red Sea gates to the Indian Ocean, On the Hub between Africa and the Arab World, and how perfectly that fits into the partnership that the U.S is building around the globe to fight the threats of the present millennium. That should have been the meat of the discussion with the high level U.S delegation.

I have to highlight here that in creating this opportunity of a dialog between Somaliland and the U.S the Minister of Finance nearly lost his life and was attacked by thugs hired by the enemies of Somali land in Nairobi Kenya. Therefore, I would like to examine here how did the leadership of the opposition in Somaliland acted and performed when this great moment of having the chance to sell Somaliland to the U.S authorities was created for them by their own Government through its noble international efforts and invited them to play their part in the game. How did they act.. That is the sixty four million dollar question ??

The imminent, Honorable exemplary Haj Mujahid Mr. Siilanyo acted just like a student complaining from the monitor of the class to a visiting inspector of schools. He literally cried and sobbed in front of Dr Frazier. It was so dramatic that one of the delegation has haned his handkerchief to him. Look at what he told the American delegation.

  • That Democracy has failed in Somaliland
  • That he do not expect the elections to happen
  • That Human Rights violations are rampant in Somaliland
  • That the Government does not respect the law of land.
  • That parliament bills are never signed by the President.
  • That the budget bill is totally ignored.
  • That the president did never report back to anybody about the trip to U.S

To my understanding that is the message that every opposition leader campaigns on inside the country. It is the sort of a message that you get votes in the election time from your people. It is what he should have told us building a case for his Party and for himself as a leader. This was no message for the U.S Government and for Madam Jandai Frazier. It is not her who is taking sides in the internal debate of Somaliland.

What Dr Frazier wanted to hear was what Somaliand can offer in return if the U.S takes the step of giving the diplomatic recognition to our country. Ms Frazier knows quit well that there are charades and exchanges of taunts and sometimes insults in the political arena of all democratic countries. She had no time for that and from reliable sorts close to her delegation she confided that the opposition leader mistook her for a reporter from the Washington Post.

There are people who are now accusing Mr Siilanyo of trying to deliberately torpedo the recognition of Somaliland. These peole are saying that Mr Siilanyo is so educated . so experienced ,so intelligent to mix up situations, however, all he wanted was to scare Ms Frazier and give out the message’ "America stay out . This is another Kenya brewing up”. There has long been suspicions that Mr Siilanyo and radical wing of his party do not want recognition of Somaliland in Rayalles time.

  • Look at his Campaign Manager going to Impigatti
  • Look at how he flew and hid himself in Addis Ababa when Abdillahi Yey was elected
  • Look at how he sided with the Islamic courts
  • Look at how he was not enthusiastic with the liberation of Sool.
  • Look at how Mohamed Aar, his man is London deserted him on similar accusations.
  • Look at how he left Dr. Issa, who could have been the most ideal person to meet the delegation and talk about the recognition.

Well, let me admit here that a great number of people who were shocked on the performance of Mr Siilanyo that day are ready to give him the benefit of doubt, However I believe the veteran brother owes us an explanation.

Would UDUB Defeat/Kulmiye Victory be Bane or Blessing f or Somaliland?
Somaliland is going to the polls Saturday June 26, 2010 to elect its next president. However, it...
