Somalia: When NSUM’s “Mission Report” Fails “The” Mission

Titles: “Mission Report” and “Special Report” often decorated on wardheernews.com (or warandheernews.com) as news articles supposed to be fair, authentic and informative to convey their message. But what happens when the message is lost within itself? What happens when the author scribbles 3000 words on WordPad—an impressive guide for how to write self-defeating scathing rants?

For starters, first you may want to familiarise with the deceptive NSUM (or NSPU, ASSC—S) violent gangs and its foreign cohorts like Dr. Muhammad Shamsaddin Megalommatis (or simply Dr. Megal), a seventy-five-years-old foreigner—a fervent propagandist with innate talent for trash talking. http://tinyurl.com/d3qtzx

Never before have I stumbled on such a self-defeating disinformation as the one the so-called NSUM cliques posted on wardheernews.com. The canard entitled, “Conveying the SSC Message to the International Community: Mission Report”, conveys anything but its message. In it under the guise of advocating for “sacred” Somali unity, the NSUM attempts to ignite an inferno in Somaliland. It spurs tribal feuds to disintegrate the fabric of the Somaliland society—a wicked perquisite for Somali unity. And as if obfuscating the true picture as well as garbling the historical facts of Somaliland isn’t good enough, the clique mixes insults with lies—rehashes of regurgitated stale propaganda. The NSUM states, “…their [Somaliland people] former British colonial master, and their eventual invasion and occupation of Sool have transformed…a peaceful area into one where …armed struggle against the occupation is possible …” Here is the “Mission Report” and good luck in deciphering the NSUM’s spaghetti code. http://wardheernews.com/Articles_09/May/05_mission_report_ssc_osman.pdf

For one thing, British colonised Somaliland but far from “masters” the colonizers never succeeded to subjugate the indigenous people. For another, Somaliland’s arrival to Sool region not only beefed up desperately needed security but also established an effective local authority in the region for the first time. So what is the NSUM blabbing about?

Take as an example, a friend of mine named Sidiiq Ali whose mother currently lives in Las Anod, the provincial capital of Sool region in Somaliland, confirms with her over the phone that although largely women and children oppose Somaliland, many tribal leaders, intellectuals, politicians and business men/women not only welcome Somaliland’s tight security in the city but also convince themselves—apart from their overhyped tribal lineages with Puntland—their future lies with Somaliland: with or without recognition. Historically, geographically and culturally they have more in common with Somaliland people than with other Somalis. So who is telling the truth: the residents of Las Anod, or the “Mission Report” drafted in Nairobi? Next time, perhaps the NSUM should take its anti-hallucination pills before it spits out an overused nonsense.

Besides was it Somaliland that invaded Sool region or the residents of Sool that chased away Puntland militias? Find out how the events unfolded in October 2007 before the fall of Las Anod: http://www.somalilandtimes.net/sl/2007/301/9.shtml

The truth is: Somaliland government isn’t so much concerned about whether you oppose or support it as long us you are not inciting violence. For instance, a number of Sool tribal chiefs who openly oppose Somaliland live in Las Anod freely. Even members of Puntland authority who hail from Sool visit the city unopposed. A case in point: recently, Puntland Parliamentarians slammed an MP named Adan Haji Hussain from Sool tribes for visiting Las Anod while MPs from either Puntland or Somalia cannot step into Sool region much less enter the city. http://www.qaranimo.com/2009/may/May7_9.htm Then, where do the NSUM sources come from? You may ask.

Sending Lies from Europe and North America

The problem is: the NSUM cliques live abroad. Majority of them just like the Northern belly dancers in Mogadishu who wish to govern Somaliland from a distance with a remote control—provided that Alshabaa doesn’t obliterate them with a remote controlled bombs—departed the North (Somaliland) decades ago. To proof my case: a spokes person for the NSUM namely, Isman Hassan haji Omar (Badawi) who currently lives in Geneva, Switzerland confirms that this is a Diaspora group. He also admits like many of his cliques he departed Somalia/Somaliland decades ago: in 1958. Listen to this clip: http://tinyurl.com/ohbrxh Then of course he is clueless about the current situations in Africa—never mind Somaliland or Somalia. The NSUM’s fabricated tales of atrocity committed against Sool people were contrived in overseas and so was their “Mission Report”. (Also read a related article about the spectacular belly dancers of Somaliland in Mogadishu. http://tinyurl.com/d3y4dl And why Somali unity case won’t flay. http://tinyurl.com/cdbcpl )

The NSUM gangs—handful persons without office remain scattered all over the world; its top members live in North America and Europe:

• Switzerland: spokes person, Isman Hassan

• U.S.A: secretary, Mohamoud Mirre

• United Kingdom: treasurer, Suleiman Abdi Madobe

• And other members live in Canada and Graceland

Although they all live in Western countries and enjoy decent lives, they detonate explosives in Somaliland. In 2008, I wrote a piece entitled, “Is Canada Harbouring Terrorists Who Attacked Hargeisa? “ http://tinyurl.com/pe6unu In it I explained how the terrorist group Alshabaab's suicide bombings in Haregiesa, Somaliland capital and Col. Cabdul Casiis’s (Garam Garam) grenade attacks in Las Anod police station could be linked to NSUM. Some readers thought I lost my sanity helmet. But did I?

One year later, the NSUM admitted that it provided $50000 to Col. Cabdul Casiis (Garam Garam) to carry out attacks but to no avail. After he wounded two police offices in Las Anod with grenade attacks, he sprinted all the way to Garowe, Puntland capital, with $50000 in his pocket. He had more faith in his feet than in his escape Land Cruiser.

In an interview with the head of the NSUM in the U.S., Abdirahman Mohammed Isman (Abdi Boobe) explains the NSUM’s frustration with Col. Cabdul Casiis and how he scammed the group $50000 intended for clandestine operation against peaceful Somaliland. How about spending that $50000 on rebuilding schools and hospitals? Here is the audio interview: http://tinyurl.com/q3kbbp

Currently, the NSUM members are busy collecting money not for rebuilding schools and hospitals but for detonating explosive against Somaliland politicians, police and military officers in Sool region. Mark my word! The NSUM has its assassinations contrived.

Also, in its disinformation report the NSUM boasts about its meetings with the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations (SRSG) for Somalia, Ahmedou Ould-Abdallah, and AU Special Representative for Somalia, Mr. Nicolas Bwakira. But little Mr. Ould-Abdallah and Mr. Bwakira know that the NSUM they met is what could be categorised as a terrorist network. This is not an empty accusation. With their words, the NSUM gangs admitted to provide $50000 to Col. Cabdul Casiis to conduct terror campaigns in Somaliland. Therefore, make no mistake, the U.N, NGOs, and African representatives should know—to meet or to take photo op with NSUM gangs tantamount to condoning bomb attacks against Somaliland.

Inadvertently, the NSUM also digs its own grave. While its members stays silent about Col. Abudullahi Yussuf’s atrocities inflicted on Somalia, they “report” a horrendous war crime supposedly Somaliland committed against Sool people. Such a war crime, as NSUM screams deserve the International Criminal Court’s attention.

NSUM scribbles, “…the invasion and occupation of Sool region by Somaliland militia…the humanitarian catastrophe they caused and related human rights violations they committed. … amounted to indictable war crimes…regional capital of Sool…has since been… reduced to a ghost town…displaced people are now trekking to the refugee camps in Kenya out of desperation…the perpetrators…merited to be tried at the International Criminal Court in The Hague…”

Is it possible that the NSUM mistakes countless carcases of perished livestock due to sever droughts for mass murder of people? Though the NSUM writes blatant lies, it never provides a shred of evidence to support its story. Not a single source is stated in its “Mission Report” or misleading rants.

What the NSUM ignores is, however, its preceding statements mock the victims of Col. Yussuf, the former Somali “president” wannabe, or precisely: the butcher of Mogadishu. Most of them suffer in refugee camps in Kenya. In 2006-2008 when he rolled up his sleeves to pulverise Mogadishu to dust, the NSUM didn’t just cheer from the sidelines but also recruited militias for its blood-soaked Colonel from as far as Sool region.

And in North America and Europe, the NSUM held dozens of fundraising events not for the fleeing refugees but for Col. Yussuf’s junta regime. In Ottawa, Canada, personally, I at least participated in one of those events: fundraising bullets, as an observer of course. Yet the NSUM distorts facts and calls the refugees that Col. Yussuf sent to exile in droves with its scandalous money—the new refugees from Sool region. What a heartless and freaky twist!

In fact, it wasn’t the residents of Sool that trekked hundreds of miles to reach Kenyan refugee camps. But Col. Yussuf militias backed by NSUM’s money and Ethiopia’s defining artillery barrages displaced a million plus Somalis. History doesn’t lie. For the NSUM to show its unequivocal support for Col. Yussuf not only defended Ethiopia’s incursion into Somalia but also painted Ethiopia as the sister state of Somalia while criminalising the Islamic Court Union’s freedom fighters as foreign-trained terrorists. http://www.sudantribune.com/spip.php?article22435 (The author: Gamal M Hassan is the former NSPU (or NSUM or ASSC—S) ring leader.) Back then, the Somali unity now the NSUM screams about was apparently on maternity leave—giving birth to Ethiopia’s illegitimate child: Haile Gebre. (No worries! Of course, young Haile was handled by an overqualified Midwife: Col. Abuddulahi Yussuf.)

But beneath the NSUM members’ unity façade, their clan doctrine as well as loyalty to Puntland is revealed. Despite the cliques’ superficial unity nuisances, they remain staunch supporters of Puntland as the NSUM itself testifies, “It is important to note that Sool, Sanag and Cayn SSC regions are taken from Puntland and not from just tribes that live in there. And because of Puntland’s inability to defend the regions and to retake them people in SSC regions lost confidence in Puntland.” (SSC: regions NSUM claims to represent.) See NSUM’s original document in Somali: “Baaq Ku Wejihan Doorashada Putland Iyo Mawqifka Ururka NSUM/SSCA” at http://www.n-sum.org/

Yet the NSUM has the audacity to label Somaliland as a tribal enclave. Worse still, although the NSUM gangs remain determined to blur your vision and convince you that they promote Somali unity, they call Somaliland people—the “enemies”. “…they [NSUM members] will oppose the new enemies [Somaliland people] within that threaten Somali unity…“, writes the NSMU in its “Mission Report”. Huh!

Baffling isn’t it? If Somaliland people are vilified and portrayed as the “enemies”, how possibly could NSUM achieve “unity”? With its ink the NSUM shoots itself in the foot.

What the NSUM Never Tells You: The Forbidden Truth

Although the NSUM violent thugs pretend to speak for the people of Sool, Sanag and “Cayn” regions, due to these gangs' selective amnesia they forget to tell you that:

• They don't speak for all Dhulbahante, never mind other tribes namely, Isaq, Warsangale, Fiqishini and others in Sool and Sanag provinces. Just listen to what Mr. Isman, the head of the NSUM in the U.S., states in the following audio interview. He admits that his clique only speaks for Dhulbahante. Such a claim is even debatable because not all Dhulbahante oppose Somaliland, and NSUM nominated itself. Here is the audio clip: http://tinyurl.com/q3kbbp

• Sool and Sanag are inhibited by the Northern tribes of Isaq, Dhulbahante, Warsangale, Fiqishini and others—something the NSUM never mentions. And while overwhelmingly Isaqs and Fiqishini are pro-Somaliland, without a doubt some Dhulbahante and Warsangeli tribes too support Somaliland independence. Even those who oppose sovereignty are determined to keep Somaliland as a peaceful heaven—contrary to the armed upraise that the NSUM generously sprinkles on its “Mission Report”

• Although the NSUM hate-mongers want you to believe that an Isaq “militia” invaded Sool region, what they don’t tell you is: majority of Somaliland forces in Sool as well as their top commanders for example, Gen. Aided who dislodged Puntland militia from Las Anod in fact hail from none other than Dhulbahante tribes. Similarly hundreds of Dhulbahante forces in Puntland defected to Somaliland. Then who is occupying Sool? Its people of course!

• While the NSUM fabricates reports about refugees fleeing Las Anod, a Sool tribal chief named Said Ashur Abyan who vehemently opposes Somaliland contradicts the NSUM lies. He states some Dhulbahante tribes such as, Jama Siyad even agreed to disarm and transferred their weapons to Somaliland much less wage war against it. Here is the interview: http://tinyurl.com/qw9eal Then the question is: why would the people of Sool give up their heavy weapons if Somaliland “occupies” their land, as the NSUM claims? The NSUM’s story defies commonsense and logic, doesn’t it?

• “Cayn” region was created by the notorious war criminal Col. Abdullahi Yussuf who probably never stepped into that area. The NSUM cliques dismiss the existence of Somaliland, yet they promote Abdullahi Yussuf’s Cayn region

• NSUM uses the opinion of an inexperienced young Garaad (a tribal chief) named, Jama Garaad Ali as a testimonial for the support that it receives from Sool region. But they don’t tell you that his father, Garaad Abdiqani Garaad Jama (May God bless his soul) wasn’t only a great leader but also one of the founders of Somaliland. What’s more, others namely Garaad Abdullahi Mohammed Dheeg not only resolutely oppose the NSUM but also clearly state it doesn’t represent everybody including Diasporas and hardly any one falls for its virulent agenda. Listen to the interview with Chief Abdullahi Mohammed Dheeg: http://tinyurl.com/ob9wnt

Other intellectuals from Sool region also speak out against NSUM’s deceptive and destructive lies. Few months ago, as a joke I encouraged an acquaintance named Layla Xaashi an accomplished anthropologist to join the NSUM group. She hails from Sool region and opposes not Somaliland itself but its quest for independence. Her reaction was swift: “Not in my name, brother!” she responded. She added, “To oppose Somaliland is fine and dandy, but to loath and incite violence as NSUM does is a shame.” Like many Sool Diasporas in North America she refused to buy NSUM’s propaganda cliché.

Wardheenews.com—NSUM’s Unholy Marriage

Warandheernews.com—a playground for forgers, plagiarists, and NSUM hate-mongers remains a springboard for unleashing a venomous cyber war towards Somaliland.

In fact, if a website could win a contest about: how to spread disinformation against Somaliland, how to facilitate hell-bent groups namely, NSUM and Dr. Megal to use the site as a launch pad to attack Somaliland, and how to beat tribal war drums to ignite an inferno in Somaliland—the uncontested winner of 2008 is wardheernews.com. Standing ovations for wardheernews.com please! Congratulations wardheernews!

Using wardheernes.com as a secure base, the NSUM and its self-nominated spokes person Dr. Megal not only incite violence in Somaliland but they also openly spur chaos in Somalia. That is, Dr. Megal who is on President Hosni Mubarak of Egypt’s payroll and the NSUM vow to engulf Somalia and Somaliland in a firestorm to please foreign states.

Egypt is determined to force Somaliland into a gunshot marriage with Somalia to use them as a bulwark against Ethiopia if Nile River crises erupt between Ethiopia and Egypt. Undoubtedly, Egypt is about to dislodge the besieged Somali President Sheikh Sharif from power as to replace him with a bellicose Somali leader who opposes Ethiopia and forces Somaliland to reunite with Somalia.

With his words Dr. Megal demands a violent bloodshed against Somaliland as he states, “Can NSUM and Patriotic Forces Lead the People to Insurgence?” He adds, “…immediately launch violent campaigns and lead the North Somalis to insurgence…“ http://tinyurl.com/d33rsf Similarly, Dr. Megal labels President Sheikh Sharif: “Somalia´s Most Tragic Failure”. http://www.californiachronicle.com/articles/view/101845

Final Thoughts

The NSUM hate-mongers' unabated lies, disinformation, and villain attacks without any qualm testify to the vacuity of their arguments or rants.

Don’t get me wrong; the purpose of this paper has nothing to do with promoting Somaliland independence or suppressing Somali unity. Nor is the aim to marginalise the great people of Sool and Sanag or dismiss their legitimate power-sharing grievances against Somaliland. This piece is about exposing the NSUM’s lies and wicked deceptions.

It is worth to note: most of the damaging evidences in this report come from the NSUM itself, and from some Sool tribal chiefs who bitterly oppose Somaliland. Oddly enough, none of the sources come from Somaliland.

To oppose Somaliland’s quest for independence in a respectful and professional manner is something we all value. Most of us—admittedly including me—opposed Somaliland independence at one point. But to trash talks, spit out lies, deceive and instigate violence as the NSUM and Dr. Megal do repeatedly—is an evidence of moral erosion.

Without a shame, the NSUM portrays Somaliland army as an "Isaq" militia and then goads Sool and Sanag population into waging a bloody war against “Isaq” militia “occupying” Dhulbahante land. The gaol of the NSUM is once Dhulbahante drags Isaqs into a war, the wider Darod tribes of Somalia will get involved, hence; Hut vs. Tutsi blood path will be inevitable—a million dead nomads scattered on the desert. Unequivocally, the NSUM strategy is to foment a tribal warfare in Somaliland. These hate-mongers must be stopped.

Also, despite the NSUM’s hollow mantra unity calls, it is the biggest threat to unity. Talk about paradox! Now, whether you hail from Sool, Sanag or from the rest of Somaliland regions, or from Somalia, whether you support Somaliland independence or Somali unity—make no mistake the NSUM polarizes the Somali people.

Similarly, the U.N., NGOs, and African representatives must not associate with violent groups like the NSUM that evidently detonates explosive against police officers.

As for Somaliland government, it must vehemently protest against any International group that deals with the NSUM. There isn’t better evidence than NSUM’s words. It admitted funding bomb attacks in Sool region to “liberate” the “occupied” population.

What about the rights of the population, perhaps the silent majority—the ones the NSUM constantly suffocates with oversized pillows and fails to mention in its “Mission Report”? Doesn’t “Mission Report” supposed to examine both sides of the coin? What should we do with the population from every tribe in Sool and Sanag regions, from all walks of life, who adamantly believe because of the inalienable rights with Somaliland they wish to remain part of it? Toss them out the window—something the NSUM wouldn’t hesitate to do.

The NSUM thugs don’t only incite violence in Somaliland, but they also gang-raped Somalia with Col. Yussuf—Ethiopia coalition. Remember, when Ethiopia was slaughtering thousands of Somali civilians, the NSUM called Ethiopia—the sister state of Somalia and vilified the Islamic Court Union freedom fighters: as mindless terrorists who should not oppose the occupation. Yet today the NSUM cowards shed more crocodile tears than thunderclouds could spill rains for Somali unity. Back then, where was Somali unity? Where was the NSUM’s “Mission Report”? Truly, the NSUM needs to redefine: hypocrisy.
